Alternative Fashion Show

Yesterday was the Alternative Fashion Show in Spitalfields where everyone from 1st year textiles at Chelsea showed their work.
Working in pairs, with the project title 'Modern Folk', we both chose a tradition to research and develop ideas from. I designed the top part of this outfit, originally looking at a Bulgarian masking tradition called Kukeri. I was inspired by thier use of bright colours and beading. The entire top is made from beads and ribbon fed onto wire and connected usng jump rings.
My partner for the project designed the skirt, and started off looking at Chinese New Year. From this she looked at flower motifs and creating a textured surface from looking at the dragons used in the dances.
